AHOY
The brief for this sculpture was to produce a monumental scale eye-catching sculpture that served as a focal point to the area. It was designed with its intended river side site in mind.
Within the surrounding area of the sculpture were cafes and bars with outside tables and chairs. The idea came from the notion that the tide had risen at some point and this huge toy boat from another world had sailed in and the tied receded leaving it perched on a table. The sculpture invited interaction with an empty chair.
The sculpture was never installed in its intended site and an alternative site was found in Hampshire. The sculpture was finally sold by Sotheby’s to a private collector in 2005 and is now in Turkey.
The sculpture stands six and a half meters tall and weighs over nine tons it was built and installed by Art Fabrications, Nuneaton.
